Bonaire

Bonaire is the perfect Caribbean vacation destination. Everyone loves the beaches, the resorts, the lush scenery, the fishing, snorkeling, and diving. Travelers especially love the amazing scenery, and photographers flock here to get prize-winning photos of that and of the flamingoes. Bonaire features rolling mountain peaks framing blue lagoons and white beaches dotted with both cacti and lush foliage. Simply stunning!

Bonaire is located in the southern part of the Caribbean Sea, just off Venezuela. For that reason, conditions are more arid than other Caribbean islands, which is why travelers get to enjoy the greater variety of landscape. There are cacti and deserts as well as beaches. It’s also the reason that Spanish is spoken on this Dutch island. You’ll find that English is spoken all over, as well. Travelers appreciate the facilitiy with languages that Bonaire residents seem to posess as second nature.

The thousands of pink flamingoes that flock here every year to nest and mate. They head for the shallow waters of Bonaire’s lagoons, present at either end of the island. Visit Great Salt Lake on Bonaire’s south side for amazing display of pink feathers! You’ll also see giant flocks of other birds as well. Look for parakeets, herons, parrots, pelicans, terns and more in this bird-lover’s paradise.

For divers and snorkelers, Bonaire is the perfect vacation spot because of Bonaire Marine Park, which totally surrounds the island. Alternatively, visitors can charter a boat out to Kleine Bonaire, which means Little Bonaire. It’s an offshore island all set up with moorings and dive spots all marked out for easy diving. The water is crystal clear so you can see all the coral and fish that hang around the reef here.

Back on land, Bonaire is also known for having some of the best windsurfing in the Caribbean. Or take in the gorgeous scenery of Bonaire while trekking. Head for Washington-Slagbaai National Park and you can spend all day exploring.

Bonaire is a Caribbean paradise, but not everyone knows it yet. This is a well-kept secret! The beaches are clean and not at all crowded. There are wild goats and donkeys wandering around munching on the shrubs and cactus flowers. One of the most famous beaches on Bonaire is Pink Beach. The sand really is pink because of a reaction with the islands salt ponds. Salt is big industry on Bonaire, and if you go to the southern end of the island, you’ll see mountains of it. We know you’d rather see the beaches, the cacti, the mountains and the picture-perfect capital town of Kralendijk.

If you make it to Bonaire, you’ll forever love this beautiful island where you can not only go snorkeling on the reef and windsurfing just off the beach, but you can also go horseback riding on a farm, take a moon trip on a Chinese junk offering dinner, and find accommodations for bargain rates. We think you’ll love Bonaire for all this and more.
