Aruba
Aruba
Aruba is in the southern Caribben region, where the weather is drier and even sunnier than the other islands of this area. Beach goers often choose Aruba for the temperate weather and cooling breezes. You can bask all day on the beautiful beaches of Aruba and stay cool in the balmy climate. Some of the most famous beaches are Palm Beach and Eagle Beach. Together, these two picture perfect beaches stretch for seven miles! You beach walkers out there might want to take note. Aruba is for you!
Aruba’s balmy weather and breezy winds attract not only beach goers but also wind surfers. Sail boarding is perfect here, as many windsurfers around the globe know.
The landscape of Aruba is a bit different from other Caribbean islands, in that there are oil refineries here, plus a bona fide desert. The refineries bring wealth to local Arubans and the desert brings a whole different ecosystem to the island, making it fascinating for nature lovers. The wealth has resulted in many benefits to Aruban society, like excellent schools and other government services. It’s also one of the crown jewels in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, due to the wealth generated here.
Aruba’s desert climate means the lush foliage of other more northern Caribbean islands doesn’t exist here. Instead, there is a wonderful mix of beautiful cactus plants and divi-divi trees. These trees are everywhere on the island, including on t-shirts, signs, and anywhere else Aruba’s symbol is likely to be seen. The divi-divi tree bends in the wind in the most graceful way, inspiring visitors and artists alike to think of exotic places and beautiful scenes.
If you like to explore, Aruba even has bat-filled caves with ancient petroglyphs left there by the Arawaks and Caribs, cultures of Aruba’s history. Aruba is now owned by the Dutch, but managed to escape much of the turmoil and fighting that took place as European countries sought to establish ownership of the Caribbean islands. For a few centuries now, Aruba has been peaceful under Dutch rule.
You can see the Netherlands’ influence in the architecture of Aruba. The villages and towns are full of pastel versions of typical Dutch architecture, on a smaller scale. The towns are quaint and pleasant, with Arubans typically in good cheer and casaul acceptance as their role of citizens in a country dominated by tourists. The weather is near perfect, with tropical conditions but no hurricanes. The beaches are among the best in a region that’s known for its perfect beaches. Even among the dozens of Caribbean islands, Aruba stands out as one of the crown jewels.
